Innovated pads at PHAN strips
PLIVA Lachema has been innovating their products continuously, in order to supply customers with products of high utility value. The latest innovations concern pads for determination of ketone bodies and nitrites in urine, which are used at PHAN® strips.
The pad for determination of ketone bodies in urine Advantages of the innovated pad:
-
a) environmental aspects (chlorine solvents were removed from production process),
-
a) to improve homogenity of the pad coloration,
-
to improve resistance of the pad against air humidity.
Chemical principle of the reaction remained unchanged, i.e. Legalīs reaction (alkaline buffer with natrium nitroprusside). However, reaction is performed at lower pH value and usage of glycine was skipped. These two changes caused different coloration of the pad - from violet colour shades for positive values at the "old" pad towards current reddish colours for positive values. The colour scale was reduced by 1 colour field compared to the "old" pad. The scale was designed with following concentrations:
ketone bodies mmol/l, mg/dl
This innovated pad was launched in April 2004.
The pad for determination of bacteriuria (nitrites): Advantages of the innovated pad:
-
to improve reactivity of this pad at control urines,
-
to increase sensitivity of this pad,
-
to speed up coloration of the pad,
-
to increase resistance of the pad against the ascorbic acid.
Principle of the pad remained the same, i.e. modified Griessī reaction. Reaction is performed at lower pH. Colour transition is from light yellow/ beige for negative results towards pink colour shades for positive results as it was in the past. The colour scale remained unchanged, i.e. there are 3 colour fields as follows:
nitrites
The innovated pad was launched in April / May 2004.
